AQUA-LIT at Marine Litter TAIEX-EPPA's workshop

AQUA-LIT was invited to participate in an online workshop on Managing Marine Litter to be held on September 29th-30th, 2020.

Organised by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission, in cooperation with the EU Environment Partnership Programme for Accession (EPPA), the TAIEX EPPA Online Regional Workshop on Managing Marine Litter in EPPA Countries will be focused on Preventive, Mitigating and Remedial Measures on Marine Litter and New EC Developments

The beneficiaries of this workshop are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo , Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey, with the objective to strengthen national capacities for effectively addressing the large number of implementation challenges regarding preventive, mitigating and remedial measures regarding marine litter, in the context of achieving circular economy, and in synergy with the process of reaching the objectives of Single Use Plastic Strategy (SUP), Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Water Framework Directive (WFD), and the 2020 international goals of the Barcelona Convention for Biological Diversity.

The Specific Objectives of the workshop are:

  • To examine the content and implications in terms of national strategic documents of the requirements of implementing EU Directives, such as the SUP and MSFD
  • To present and discuss various tools – such as new policy instruments and action plans - required for implementing the EU directives and strategies and Circular Economy Action Plan
  • To present the latest developments connected with the EC Green Deal
  • To be better informed about the latest marine litter funded projects relevant for Adriatic and Ionic Seas
  • To present and discuss a set of proposed recommendations by participants welcoming regional actions and cooperation in tackling marine litter and transboundary management of the Adriatic and Ionic Sea.
  • To brainstorm any national obstacles (involvement and commitment, data and methodologies, coordination and cooperation, capacity building needs) towards the implementation of the EC policies, strategies and directives
  • To discuss the needs of the countries and possible options of support through the activities of EPPA project, including training needs
  • Facilitate dialogue among the countries on specific concepts, initiatives and regional actions that are needed to ensure transboundary cooperation

AQUA-LIT's participation

Our coordinator Mariana Mata Lara will present AQUA-LIT in the context of this workshop by giving the talk "Working with the Aquaculture sector to improve Marine Litter management".

The idea will be to introduce the AQUA-LIT project, present our expected outcomes, and the tools produced in the project that could be used by EPPA countries.

The presentation will be later uploaded to this site.
