  • In Greece, there is no specific environmental legislation concerning mussel culture and its waste management

  • The prevention of marine litter should be the base of the circular economy. Currently, gear producers are not considerably involved or interested in this type of approach

  • The procedures to be applied by farmers in their facilities to reduce and prevent non-organic litter from aquaculture activities are implemented on a voluntary base in Spain

  • There is a lack of awareness at all levels of the aquaculture life cycle regarding the prevention of non-organic marine litter.
