  • There is a resistance to change attitudes or habits and a lack of awareness of the necessity to do so.

  • Very little or no information exchange and dialogue about innovative solutions of waste management (i.e. common sourcing/funding/monitoring/best practice replication) and new materials with higher recyclability.

  • Some aquaculture farmers are both, producers of gear and farmers, e.g. mussel and shrimp farmers often produce their nets themselves and can be considered as producers as well

Organisation of clean-up activities for communities

The Baltic Sea Challenge is one example of several existing iniatives to cooperate on beach cleaning. Within this iniative several cleaning events are organised every year in e.g. Helsinki, Turku, Tallinn and St. Petersburg. Additionally Baltic Sea Challenge and Clean Beach campaign invite the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) member cities to organise their own events in other cities in the region.
