Second AQUA-LIT Consortium meeting
After seven months of hard work AQUA-LIT Team is meeting again, and this time right next to the
ocean! The second AQUA-LIT consortium meeting was hosted by the partner Nausicaa, in Boulogne Sur Mer,
France, on the 2nd and 3th of July.
AQUA-LIT and EATiP join forces to support innovation in European aquaculture
The European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATiP) is an
international non-profit association dedicated to developing, supporting and promoting aquaculture and, especially and
specifically, technology and innovation in European aquaculture. From the 17th to the 18th of June
2019 the 11th Annual General Meeting of the EATiP was held in the Warwick Hotel Brussels,
Belgium.
AQUA-LIT at the Aquaculture Advisory Council
On June 6th, the working group 3 of the
Aquaculture Advisory Council held a
meeting in Brussels to discuss horizontal issues in the aquaculture sector. The AAC invited several experts to learn and
debate on wetlands, data collection, marine spatial planning, seaweed and marine litter for which AQUA-LIT was
responsible.

Good news from Italy! Fishermen will be allowed to collect plastic at sea
Fishermen as "sea sweepers” of the sea: soon they will be
allowed to bring on land plastic and rubbish stuck in their nets without being accused of waste trafficking.
The international Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy
MARLICE, the international Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy was held from the
10th to the 12th of April 2019, in Seville.

A step forward in fighting microplastic in the environment!
The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) submitted in Januray 2019 a proposal to
ban intentionally added microplastics in cosmetics, detergents, paints, agricultural and industrial products.
The European Parliament backed up Commission's proposal on single-use plastics' strategy!
In May 2018, the
Commission introduced the
Single-use
plastics directive proposal to target the 10 single-use plastic products most often found on
Europe's beaches and seas, as well as lost and bandoned fishing an aquaculture gear. Last week, on March 27th,
2019, the European Parliament approved this proposal that addresses
70% of all marine litter items.
30 global companies together for starting the Alliance to End Plastic Waste!
A new Global Alliance to advance solutions to eliminate plastic waste in the environment and
especially in the ocean was launched in January 2019 by nearly thirty member companies from the plastics and consumer
goods value chain.
Workshop on Enhancing Ethics and Economics in Aquaculture
AQUA-LIT team was invited to present at the workshop “Enhancing ethics and
economics in aquaculture using solutions based on Internet of Things and digital automation”, held in Brussel on the
25th March 2019.
